Last Outing

Well with no fishing this weekend due to work, I have decided to add my last session from last weekend 11/12th November. I arrived at the Belmont Estate at 10am for a 24hr on Belmont pool with all the pegs full I headed over to Beech, A smallish water that holds a good head of carp with plenty of mid-doubles along with a few twenties.  When we arrived the weather was slightly overcast with an easterly wind.
I decided to set up opposite some open water rather than head towards the island, My thinking was the fish wouldn't be on the move so much and i though this presented me with the best option. My friend James set up to the right of me with the island to his right. I had made my rigs the night before as I always do if I have a planned session.
One a bottom bait made from IQ2 with the IQ2 whipped around some stripped back Kryston Mantis, so the hair is soft as the Fluorocarbon Iq is a bit to stiff for my liking as I would rather a more natural action from the bait.

See how i have whipped the iq around the hair

Secondly a pop up rig using IQ2 and Kyrston Silkworm. It may look like there is a long length from the putty to the hook, the reason is I was using a critically balanced pop up so the hook was just balancing the pop up from the lake bed. As you can see both rigs use the Korda IQ I think the fluorocarbon has such a big part to play with my success this year.

I always use the Korda Kaptor Hooks, ever since these come out I will not use a different hook, I have so much more confidence in these hooks and never had an issues so far so no need to change..

Once I was set up my baits of choice were a Cell Dumbell for the bottom bait an a Hot Peperami Pop up. Rigs were out into the chosen destination and within an hour I was into a fish after a good scrap I was finally able to slip the net under what looked like a good double. Fished was weighed at 22lb and photos taken and I had another 20 to add to my seasons total. That's now 14 20's including 2 27's and a 28 my pb.
Beech 22lb

Sorry to say that was the only fish of the session, After an  hour or so of slipping the fish back the heavens opened for hours on end and I think that turned the fish off as the water temperature would of dropped a degree or two.

I will be back out a week today so wish me luck.

Thanks for reading Mike

Nov 13.11.11 The Begining

Well here I go diving deep and starting my own blog, Two main reasons are to give others an insight in to the life of a modern day carp angler and to also record my own captures and info from waters that I fish.
This season so far has been a great one for me, as my previous personal best was a 17lb River Weaver Common which a few years ago was a great capture (image below)
River Weaver Carp

This July I joined Lymm Anglers and I have beat that personal best on no more than 14 times, I have had some truly stunning fish and some magical sessions since joining Lymm and having nothing but good things to say about the club.

My new personal best is now a 28lb Mirror known as Bretts Fish caught from Belmont pool on the 28th August I remember it well. The only down side was I was fishing alone and never got the picture I wanted see below (how disappointed I was)

I have been put on to a great bait SPS from 1toners and all of my results have been on this bait, I have fished  with a spread of 20 or so around the hook bait along with my own take on a pva stick. (Image below)
Rightly named Cock n Balls
I have had a number of 20+ fish from Belmont and Beech, two of the waters I have targeted this year with good success. All Pics will all be in my album to view.

In September this year I took a trip to The Monument fishery. On Peg10 one of the least favourable pegs I hooked into what felt like a monster and my new pb for sure after a good fight i slipped the net under a immaculate looking mirror.
I was over the moon to say the least and only to my disappointment the fish weighed in at 27 dead.

Just a quick round up on the year so far. I will be keeping up to date with pictures and reports and also a look at some of my rigs.. Till next time-good angling.....
